What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is the application of a restorative composite resin on the front and back of the teeth. Bonding can be used to restore decayed teeth, to make cosmetic improvements, to slightly change the color, and to reshape teeth.
When would we recommend dental bonding for you?
If you have decayed teeth or wish to make cosmetic improvements, please talk to your dentist at Dlight Dental. We will be happy to help you decide if dental bonding is a good treatment option for you.
What is the procedure like?
Typically, dental bonding can be completed in one visit that may last about one to two hours. Individual situations may vary. Before the resin material is applied, we’ll prepare your tooth using a very mild etching solution. This will make the surface of the tooth rough so that the durable resin is able to bond securely to your enamel.
After etching, the putty-like resin will be placed on your tooth and cured using a high-intensity light. This will harden the resin layer in just a few minutes, and this process will be repeated for each layer of resin. The number of layers needed will depend on your individual situation. Once the last coat is in place, the resin material will be sculpted to fit your bite and finely polished. The bonding resin comes in many shades, and we can match it to your natural teeth.
What to expect after getting dental bonding
Basically, dental bonding can be used to cover any cosmetic flaws you might have. It can lighten any stains on your teeth, close up minor gaps, and even correct slightly crooked teeth.
